Travel agent jailed two years for Canadian visa fraud

Magistrate Abimbola Amole-Ajimoti of the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Courtroom, Ibadan, Oyo Point out, on Thursday, sentenced a journey agent, Olanrewaju Sangodoyin, to two years’ imprisonment for defrauding his consumer, Mutiu Yekini.

PUNCH Metro collected that the 33-calendar year-aged was compensated a sum of N750,000 for the processing of a Canadian visa.

However, the convict did not produce on the job or return the revenue to Yekini.

The law enforcement charged Sangodoyin with fraud and theft, offences punishable beneath sections 390(9) and 419 of the Legal Code Guidelines of Oyo State 2000.

The prosecution counsel, Sgt. Philip Amusan, instructed the courtroom that the convict on December 17, 2018, with intent to defraud, received N750,000 from Yekini at Imalefalafia, Idi-Ope, Ibadan.

Amusan claimed, “The defendant fraudulently attained the revenue to procure a Canadian visa for Yekini, recognizing identical to be untrue.”

The magistrate sentenced the convict to jail devoid of a good selection.

Amole-Ajimoti explained, “The convict is identified responsible as billed. He is hereby sentenced to two years’ imprisonment on rely one of fraud without the need of an choice of a fine.

“He is also sentenced to 1-year imprisonment for thieving money from the complainant. The sentence is to run concurrently.”
